The Minnesota Barbeque Society was established in 1996 by a small but yet very dedicated group of people. The person that deserves the most credit for getting the MBS started is the Colonel Al Pruitt. In the early years, the Society held many of their meetings outdoors and cooking was just part of the meetings.
In 1997, the Society held its first successful BBQ contest and received KCBS sanctioning the following year. Informal gatherings have been held throughout the years, and in 2009 a group of BBQ enthusiasts gathered to formally organize the Minnesota Barbeque Society into a nonprofit organization.
Today, the Board of Directors, Officers and Members are working to grow and shape the Society into a premier state BBQ Society to accomplish its mission.
